It all began in 1967, fishing out of Manistee with my dad in a 12-foot aluminum boat. At just 5 years old, I caught my first salmon, and I was hooked for life!

I grew up fishing for salmon and trout along the west coast of Lake Michigan and the St. Joe River with my dad and grandpa. During high school, I balanced fishing and hunting with playing football, wrestling, and running track. After graduation, I attended Western Michigan University, where I earned my bachelor’s degree in business administration, along with a minor in psychology.

Before diving into my business career, I briefly considered starting a fishing charter business. What was meant to be a short-term venture quickly turned into five years, then twenty, and now, over forty years later, I’m still running Sea Hawk Charters! It’s incredible how time flies.

Over the years, fishing has been a true joy, but what really stands out are the amazing clients who’ve turned into lifelong friends.

I continue to own and operate Sea Hawk Charters full-time, but I’m fortunate to have an outstanding young co-captain, Jeremee Curtis, who also runs charters on the Sea Hawk. Jeremee is an exceptional captain—an excellent fisherman and fantastic with clients. His drive and motivation ensure that Sea Hawk Charters remains one of the top fishing charters on Lake Michigan. He also runs his own charter business, Silver Bullet Charters, focusing on the river system.
